Orta Blu

Orta Blu, founded in 2010, is our sustainability division.

It aims to communicate Orta’s efforts in resource management and conservation, create Social Missions, and promote upcycling and recycling both by example and by helping our online community understand how they can make a difference even with small changes. Orta Blu makes this information accessible with the creation of media and fictional characters like Mr. Blu, who is our liaison to children.
Here are the main focuses of Orta Blu:

ENERGY & TECH:

For decades, Orta has practiced sustainability in the disposal of chemical waste and the usage of energy and water. Energy&Tech communicates these efforts while preparing Orta for the issuing of its first CSR Report.

SOCIAL MISSIONS:

Using denim as a catalyst, Orta has launched a series of initiatives that are helping NGOs on three different continents to sustain their programs. Orta works in the field, and approaches the problems with the determination to make a difference and the know-how of an international business.

ORGANIC LIFESTYLE:

BETTER COTTON INITIATIVE

Better Cotton is cotton grown in a way that aims to reduce the stress on the local environment and improve the livelihoods and welfare of farming communities. Better Cotton represents a new globally recognised standard for more sustainable cotton production.

BCI is a multi-stakeholder initiative - from producer to retailer - who have decided to act together to reduce the damaging environmental and social consequences of cotton production and make the sector’s future more secure. BCI is about helping farmers to transform farming practices in ways that reduce stress on the local environment and improve the livelihoods of farming communities. BCI wants to show farmers that it makes business sense to reduce pesticide usage, to manage water better, to improve soil health and the welfare of farm workers.

Orta is representing suppliers & manufacturers membership category on BCI Council since 2011. Orta has been investing on the establishment of Better Cotton programs in Turkey as well.

Being part of its sustainable philosophy, Orta supports BCI on global and national basis by using 5% “Better Cotton” within its total cotton consumption.
